A study published today by the Active Travel Academy (a research group based at Westminster University) predicts up to a million more cars on Britain’s roads, as commuters choose to drive to work to overcome restrictions imposed by rail and bus companies, to meet Government social distancing guidelines.
The study estimated that nationally the likelihood is of a 7% increase in ‘commuter car’ journeys, rising even higher in urban areas that are more reliant on the bus and train. The government have of course been urging Britons to stay away from public transport to assist in social distancing and control the spread of infection of Covid-19. In response to these government guidelines, public transport companies have had to reduce normal passenger loads by up to 80-90%.
